Blogging? Not my cup of tea!

I`ve been reading many articles that state that blogging CAN be a powerful learning tool. One of the ONL course designer have great success with blogging, 800 blogs in ten years and tons of followers! Ten years of blogging. In this post he writes that blogging has become a part of life. I`m so far from that….

I`ve been thinking a lot on my resistance to write blogs which is the only mandatory assignment in the ONL18 course. Our PBL group is split between positive and negative experience with blogging. Read more about blogging and feedback in our PBL latest presentation.  I`ve tried to find a systematic review of student’s experiences with blogging in higher education but have no luck so far. I`m wondering how the pedagogical design factors of blogging can motivate me to blog. Why does some find blogging as a useful learning tool and others not? Is it different perception of the learning outcome? The feedback proses or different learning style that influence the success factor?

Here follows a list of bullet points of my personal cons of blogging in ONL:

  1. Time consuming – difficult to find times among all the other task both professional and private
  2. I feel that a lack of proper English skill prevents me to write fluently and smart. It would be so much easier if I could write in my mother tongue
  3. Hesitate personal publishing
  4. I want my digital footprints to be of high quality
  5. Lack of feedback and response is de-motivating
  6. Why should someone be interesting in my personal thoughts among all the enormous amount of material?
  7. Does blogging fit all learnings styles? I`m a typical collaborative learner. I think and reflect best together with others.
  8. Maybe vlogging or digital storytelling suits me better than the written word?
