We started the first day of the oil project, indoors, by learning the main aspects that we followed during the week (importance of oil, what is exactly the oil, usage of it and its history). Afterwards, we were divided into groups and we had to write what we know about oil and what we would like to know about oil during that week. There were numerous topics that we wanted to know about as regards oil, so we decided that we mainly want to talk about: personal consumption, politics, environmental effects and production. Each individual from the class, wrote their name under each topic so we could present about what we were interested about.

On Tuesday, we went to Esso refinery. We met all together outside of the refinery in order to establish some health and safety regulations. After getting inside, we went into a meeting with a man that works at Esso, who presented us about the company, how they are drilling the oil, how they are storing the oil, and other historical and economical aspects of the company. After that we had a tour with a bus, outside the company in order to see the process of drilling the oil, how the oil is kept into different tanks, how they are transporting it and how they clean the water in case oil gets into the water.
After the meeting with the worker from Esso and the refinery bus tour, we went together with Øyvind to the beach next to refinery in order to learn about the three main different type of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and granite, moreover, we had to find them by ourselves. We learn how the beach was formed and why the landscape in that area was very stoney I really enjoyed the whole trip and in my opinion I can say that I have learned a lot of things about oil drilling that I didn’t know until that moment and I found them really interesting.
More about Esso trip and the type of rocks here:

Today we meet at the Norwegian Coastal Administration Center. After arriving we set into a room and a man that is working there presented us about the center, what they are doing there and what are their responsibilities. We learned that their aim related to maritime safety, maritime infrastructure, transport planning and efficiency, and emergency response to acute pollution. Furthermore, we watched a video about “Full City’’ oil spill accident that took place in in 2009, and how NCA coped with the situation.
Afterwards, we went to see the equipment that the ones from NCA are using in order to clean the water in case of oil spilling. We received information about the training that is necessarily for the workers in case of disasters. After the tour of the NCA in which we saw how they are testing the density of the oil and the cleaning of it from the water, we were split in two groups. One group went to see the incident command facilities. It was very interesting to see how they divided the departments on rooms, and in case of disasters how they organize their activities in order to face them. The other group went to see how the coastal traffic is managed.

We started the day by presenting our work that we had to undertake on Wednesday. Each group as I have already mentioned above, had to make a presentation about a different topic regain oil. I learned lots of things from my colleagues from their presentation. After we finished with our presentation, we had a “political meeting”. Øyvind wrote on the board different political parties and each one joined the political party that found more interesting. We had some time in order to put our ideas together so we can give a solid argument to the question that was: “Oil has been discovered in the Oslo fjord. Are you for or against the drilling of oil in this area?’’ I choose to join the “Green Party” together with 4 more colleagues. It was very interesting and funny in the same time, to hear different pro and cons regarding oil drilling. Each team had 30 minutes to discuss their opinion. I find it really educative and interactive.
