REFLECTION 1

I have been living in Norway for a while now, but still, there are a lot of things that still amaze me. In class on the 2 of September, we learned about the Vikings and how they traveled thousands of miles in their big boats in search of land, wealth, etc. we also learn that most Vikings were buried with all their belongings for the afterlife. after the lesson, we went on the excursion. to see some of the burial mounds found in Vestfold. for me it was really interesting to learn about the Viking era and were some of their boats were found..

Our trip statred at around 9:30 in the morning we took a buss. our first stop was in Tønsberg were we saw the first brial mound he name of this place was Osberg. the guide told us that the ship which was discovered here was discovre in 1903 at odegården nearby a river. it was excavated in 1904.. it was placed in blue clay and covered in stones. what I also found interesting was that there were two skeletons found in the ship the guide said it is believed to be of the bodies which were found was of queen Aasa and her slave, she was also buried with her kitchen things, clothes, weapons. the ship was rebuilt 1947 and is on display in a museum in Oslo.

the gravemount at Osberg.

Our second stop was in Sandefjord, here we also saw another burial mound. this one was a bit bigger than the first one, the guide also said this one was also known as the king mound. the ship which was discovered there was a warship and it was discovered in 1880 and what I found was very interesting weer the items which were found inside the grave, this included one Skelton of a man, some kitchen items beds and three other small boats and many more other things which Vikings were buried with, another aspect that I found interesting was that the ship was ship rebuilt and a replica of the ship crossed from Bergen to Chicago which I found very interesting .

The third and last stop on our tour we visited was at Gaiahalen in Sandefjord, where we ate our lunches and then took the replica of the ship, this was the very interesting excursion of the Vikings era some of the students got to take the smaller boats just around the bay area and later on the students got on the ship and sailed for 2 hours around to get the experience of the Vikings ship .
