This week our task was to observe birds and try to figure out sounds and what type they are, to say the truth this task was not that easy, considering the birds are so far away and differing the sounds was even harder for me in my short video you will see all the birds I managed to find, it was the quite fascinating cause, in the beginning, I thought I found a lot of bird but turned out most of them were the same kind. in this blog post, you will learn about, type of birds how we catch birds and why we ring them so let’s begin with the little
Ways of capturing
1.walk-in traps:
used for ground-seeding birds in huge numbers
2 cannon trap
used to capture big birds from water bodies.
3 mist nets
when a bird is caught a ring is the size (usually made of aluminum or other lightweight material) is attached to the bird’s leg. it has a unique number like AA57 the big birds get bigger rings and even get colour rings which are easier to see them and the little ones get litter materials that do not harm them, The ringing process takes usually not longer than 1,5 minutes.
– The ring is fitted around the tarsometatarsus (between the foot and ‘knee’)
– The bird is usually also weighed, measured, examined for data (sex and age, for example, a crow which mouth is black inside means it is older and if it is pink means it is younger. The ringing process takes usually not longer than 1,5 minutes.

After the birds are caught some are but into white bags to clam them down. before the ringing process beggings.
What can we find out by ringing birds?
– Individual identification
– Map travel routes
– Control the number of species
– Observe variability of bird population which implies the effect of factors like climate
change
– Define the proportion of younger and older birds
– Define their age more accurately
– No double counting
– Study territory size
– Study feeding behavior
– Information about the size of the population
– Observe bird lifespan
when didi bird ringing starts
Earliest attempt to mark birds by Roman soldiers (sending messages).Falconers in the Middle Ages fit plates on their falcons with a seal of their owner. The ringing of birds started in 1899 by Hans Christian Cornelius Mortensen.
there are some limitations to bird ringing as well
Certain bird species are for various reasons unsuitable for ringing. In some countries, such as Australia, there exist laws prohibiting banding of such species.[15]
Many very large birds, such as ratites, flamingos and the largest swans, are extremely difficult to band because the cost of making a band which is capable of securely fitting their strong, heavy legs is prohibitive. At the other extreme, the smaller species of river and tree kingfishers, todies, and certain lories have such narrow tarsii that a band can be securely placed around the birdsfoot without imposing danger to blood circulation. With some game birds, such as the Indian peafowl, spurs on the legs interfere with the bands, which thus can cause injury to the birds.
